I noticed while running a SQL Trace during a click of the "Login" link,  that stored procs such as "GetTabPermissionsByPortal" and "GetModulePermissionsByTabID" are called over and over with the same parameters - as much as 40 times. Now there may some iteration necessary, but I don't see the point of making calls with the same arguments more than once. So I'm wondering if my installation has a problem somewhere, either in the code or in the SQL. As a symptom of this, my Login process on my hosted application is painfully slow, up to a minute or more.  The click of the Login button after entry of the password is also very slow.

Can someone shed some light on this?

what version of DotNetNuke are you using - a lot of work went into the 4.4 version to improve performance, and many repeated calls were removed and refactored.

Hi

We're on 4.5.5 and the problem as described above happens to us but only on one of our 20+ portals. This portal utises a 3rd party skin incorporating flash and has the most number of tabs (50+) and users (400+).

Do you have any pointers that could help us to resolve where the problem might be?

Thanks Paul

Thanks for the interest Mitch, this is causing us and our client grief.

Settings were set after we found we had a performce issue but before we found the above issue through the SQL Trace. They are:

Page State Persistence: Page

Module Caching Method: Memory

Performance Setting: Heavy Caching

Authenticated Cacheability: ServerandNoCache

Compression Setting: GZip Compression

Use Whitespace Filter: On

Use Friendly URLs: Off

We've reindexed the TAB,PERMISSIONS,USER etc tables

SQL (SqlServer 2005 SP2) has high memory usage as you'd expect and Server (Win 2003 SP 2) CPU usually runs at 10% except for spikes over 80% whenever mutilipe users access the troubled portal.

Hope you have some ideas.

Paul
