Can someone please offer advice for what I need to do?

I have a DNN3.2 installation running on Host A.  Due to several issues, I need to upgrade to the newest DNN version and change hosting providers.  I have purchased a new hosting plan with a new provider, Host B (I believe DNN4.5)

I need to keep the Installation on HostA running smoothly until I can get HostB working well.  I have customized several modules, styles, etc on the HostA installation, so this customization needs to follow on HostB.  I'm leaving HostA up for as long as needed before switching Mx records and swapping to the new site, hopefully transparent to the users.

I am pretty sure HostA is using SQL server, and HostB is using MySQL.

Is there a list of steps I need to accomplish, and if so, is there a specific order?  My specific concerns are:

1.  Can I just "copy" the database without regard to DNN Version?  Do I need to be concerned with the SQL server vs MySQL conversion?

2.  The HostB (new) site needs to be operational while I work out bugs, customize, etc.  Do I update the PortalAlias record before I want users coming to the new site?

3.  Will all of my user accounts still work with the new site?  There are quite a few...and I would really hate to loose them all in the transition.

Thanks

Chris

Chris,

First of all your new hosting provider MUST support SQL Server as that is a requirement for the core DNN.  (Unless you are using a third party data provider).

Secondly, for informaiton on upgrades, backups, moves etc, have a look at my site http://www.mitchelsellers.com I have tutorials on ALL of those topics!

Thank you for your quick reply.

I'm on your site now looking thru the information you have on there.

FYI, the new provider I have (HostB) is Godaddy.com.  They offer DNN as an addon, but for some reason the database options say MySQL.

Thanks.
