Before I start your gammacon udt is realy great. I like it and I would like to extend it in a way that i can use your modules side by side with the extended one as well as the standard udt.

But at this point I am having problems to put the data into the right tables. Although I changed the sql script and the controller no data is going into the tables of the extended module. I think the reason is related to an error message I got after adding the module to the pane: A critical error has occurred.
MinMax persistance type of cookie requires a ModuleId. This messages disapears after adding the gammacon or standard module.

I am not very experience in developing DNN. I would be very glad if you could give me some hints on how I can fix that. thx

Hi,

The given error is rather unspecific, so you will have to check it yourself, sorry.

But please notice, that gammacon.UDT and DotNetNuke UDT 3.2.0 are nearly the same, gammacon.UDT has an search issue corrected and supports additional standard row attributes (createdAt, createdBy, updatedAt, updatedBy). Theses additions (and some other enhancements) will be included in the next release of DotNetNuke.UDT

The first thing that comes to mind for me is to make sure you changed the module name in the .dnn metadata file. If you don't, then DNN won't know the difference between the two. Then again, this might only be a problem with import/export. I'm not 100% sure on that. I've never tried to install a modified module side-by-side with the original.

It does sound like there was an install problem, tho. See if you can get us a better error description. Check the log. Also, it might be easier to simply run the scripts in Query Analyzer on a clean install (w/o your custom module) to see what the error from the database is. That'd be the easiest way to find SQL errors, if that's the problem.

Michael,

both modules have seperate manespaces, tables and stored procedures, so they can be installed side by side without any problems - we tested this on various web sites. There is also a migration script available at DeutschNetNuke, so you can replace UDT <= V3.1.0 with gammacon.UDT.

But if anyone modifies one of the modules, it is very difficult for me without a significant error message to determine the cause of an error. I would need portal directory packed and database backup to analyse, what causes the error - but sorry, I need my time for paying customers, developing open source modules - and sometimes a bit of sleep.

I think namespaces are a good point. I tried to use a new namespace like DotNetNuke.Modules.My_Module but in allmost of the other selfmade modules I saw the namespaces are defined like MyCompanyName.DotNetNuke.Modules.My_Module_Name.

About that MinMaxError I found the following: http://forums.asp.net/2/1142102/ShowPost.aspx
