I think it will only work if you save the file then open it.

Web browsers are all different and while I was able to have it open up great in Excel and Internet Explorer when I used .xls as the extension it would throw errors in other browsers of if you didn't have Excel installed. That is why I went with .csv. I don't think it is possible to get all web browsers to open .csv's directly.

I did find a bug (and fixed it) when trying to export survey results using Windows Vista: SUR-6608
