As title what is the difference between Global.asax and Global.asax.vb?

I found that if I store some Application variable in the Global.asax in the root, for example, Application["var"] = 1;

if cannot be accessed by modules. That is, referring to it will get a null reference.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ricky.

Global.asax.vb is simply the code behind for Global.asax.

I use following code to storeda global variable.

Application["sss"] = 1,

which is implemented in the application start event handler.within Global.asax .

But I find that other pages, modules cannot access it via Application["sss"] . In other words, I get a null reference.

So I modify the AP_Start handler witin Global.asax.vb,   Global.asax's codebehind to let Application["sss"] accessible to other pages.

Could I just implment the Application["sss"] at Global.asax? Or any logic implement in Global.asax will not be executed; we must modify Global.asax.vb

Any help would be appreciated.

Ricky

The changes made to Global.asax have to be made to Global.asax.vb. That is where the code for Global.asax resides.

When you made changes to Global.asax .vb you are altering the DotNetNuke Core code. this is not recommended.

Thanks for explanation.

So if I add following code in Global.asax

<%@ Application Inherits="DotNetNuke.Common.Global" Language="VB" %>

<script runat="server">
    Sub Application_Start(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)

         Application["abc"] = 1

    End Sub
</script>

I can access Application["abc"] anywhere in the website ?

Ricky.
