It might be hard to imagine in the long run, but I still think that it's a very good suggestion. It'll be much better if users have an initial idea of what a particular module can do, even if that's only a small capability. It actually took me 6 months to realize how wonderful UDT is.
Precisely. While I 'played' with the UDT a few times, I still don't have a good command of what the module can do that would add value to a site; but were I to see some cool uses of it, I might be inclined to spend more time playing...same with the media and event and repository and banner module and others.
I see a lot of great features on many DNN portals and constantly asking myself, "I wonder what they used to do that." I am finding out that much of it can be done with many of the core modules.
I thought of this after finally coming up with a unique way to use a 3rd party module for something other than its intended use - Dynamic Forms. I created a drop-down form with a series of values and a dynamic action event that will display a grid of graphic links based on the value selected in the drop-down...and using this for a 'links page.' When I user selects hotels, for example, it displays a grid of hotel affiliate graphics; then, were they to select rental cars, for example, it would refresh the page and display another set of links in the same area...all based on the value of the drop-down list. Sure, there is probably a better (and easier) way to do this, but I thought it was thinking outside the proverbial box. ;) I thought perhaps there are a million more examples of how people use the core modules for similar work-arounds and slick features.
