Whoa Tina!
Help with the core ???

I havent yet seen any advice on how to update a page with just HTML modules on it that isnt basically, moving around stuff on the live site, while people are on it... or else shutting it down and rushing like heck.

For me, at this point, even thinking about helping with the core is like a 5 year old asking to help his big brother drive the car.  Im just trying to figure out how to ride in the car without a child restraint.

Lol. It sounds intimidating at the moment, but you know what? Code is code. I've tackled some pretty large projects in my career. I think the knowledge will come in time. After all, if everyone were intimidated, nothing would get changed, yes?

Ive often wondered if there isnt a market for a DNN consultant.  Someone who would help with the tasks that people at hosts like PowerDNN do, but on a job by job basis... you know $15 for an upgrade etc... They could work with a couple hosts that they feel comfortable with, but they dont host themselves.  The details would have to be flushed out, but its a straight forward no capital investment... captive market opportunity for someone with the right skills.  They could do it from their home, in USA or India, or wherever... and if they cant help you with a particular issue, they just give your $ back, nothing lost.  Can you imagine that.. The DNN guys could even certify them.... or maybe not .

Anyway, I  just checked out  3 essentials, and you are not kidding, they are cheap!   I thought webhost4life was cheap, but they beat them hands down.

Actually, you might regret telling too many people about them....they will get overwhelmed, and slow down to a crawl.

The problem I have with uploading and upgrading DNN manually, is that all too often, I end up with that "under construction" screen.  And Ive no idea what to do after that, because its not even an error.

But with prices like that, Im going to give it a much closer look.

As for a DNN consultant, I know that I have been doing a lot of that type of thing recently, I have most likely setup about 20-40 sites for people in the last few months..... So there are some of us out there doing that type of thing now.  Money back guarantees are a something that I strongly believe in....

Well I have referred a total of 20 customers to them that I know of....and I haven't noticed any differences.  THe nice thing is that they give a dedicated application pool to each website which is something that quite a few of the shared hosting providers don't do...  And they still have the best support hands down...

Mitchel,
or anyone else...

At a simpler level than your earlier post (on your site)

remember that you are talking to someone who has some programming experience, but no database administration experience...

looking forward:

If I have a live database with a number of stored procedures in it, as well as live customer settings/data.   And I have an updated version of the database on my local machine, BUT THE ONLY THING UPDATED ARE THE STORED PROCEDURES, how would I upload just the procedures onto the new database.  I dont want to change the structure of the tables in any way, or the data in them.

How might I go about uploading just the changed sql code?  Is there a simple way to do that?

Yes, there is a very simple way to do that.

1.) If you know the specific procedures that were updated you can simply right click on them and generate alter scripts, then execute them on the production site

2.) If you do not know the specific procedures, then your best bet is to use a utility such as "Adept SQL Compare" that can look at two databases and sync changes.  There is a small fee for this utilitiy but there are outhers out there as well.
