Thank you everyone for responding. Everything is working now...

Here's what happened! I was installing on the acceptance server, so instead of downloading a new install I copied across the files from the dev server and installed from that. Something must have happened then. So I looked around and found that it was 4.5.05 module so I downloaded the upgrade and installed it and of course that didn't help. Finally I figured it out and reinstalled after deleting the DB and files. All's well now!

Of course, it was a hugh waste of time, but at least I now know never to shy away from downloading!
