I've built a test Intranet site for the company I work for on my Windows XP box. The site resides on a folder on my local drive and I need to publish it to our Intranet server running IIS 6. I can open the site in Visual Web Developer 2005 Express from my local drive, then select Default.aspx right click and select "view in browser" to make any changes. Now I'm being asked to put it on our Intranet server (there already is a site running on it) so that we can test the AD integration. I've tried, unsuccessfully, to copy the site to a directory on our Intranet server and set up an IIS virtual site from that directory to no avail. The  Intranet server has MS SQL 2005 Express (just like my XP box) installed as well. Any suggestions, or links to a "HOWTO for dummies"  would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

MMYoung

MMYoung,

The short process is as follows.

1.) Before moving login as host and add a new portal alias for the URL that will be used at the new location.  (Admin -> Site Settings)
2.) Backup the database and files
3.) Create and configure the virtual directory on the new server
4.) Restore the files and database
5.) Modify the connection strings to reflect the new DB
6.) Done!

I have full tutorials on my site for backup and restore and that is pretty much what you need to do, backup the current site and restore it to the new server.  http://www.mitchelsellers.com
