There seems to be some confusion about where to install the AD Provider (or any of the providers for that matter) and I'm to blame for that as I haven't gotten the documentation done.

  1. If you didn't install the provider when you did a fresh install or if you did an upgrade from a lower version of DNN you'll have to rename the ActiveDirectory_01.00.00_Install.Resourses file found in Install/Packages to a .zip file until the provider can be downloaded from the downloads page.
  2. Log in with Host credentials and go to Host->Host Settings and expand Authentication Settings. Underneath the installed providers is a link button to install a provider (The provider package is NOT installed under Module Definitions).
  3. Click the install link and follow the directions listed.

Once it's installed and enabled under Host->Host Settings->Authentication Settings (by default it's enabled when installed via the steps above) setup is the same as it in prior versions (Admin->Authentication).

No it's not normal and I can't recreate the problem. I'll keep trying to though.

Mike,

I renamed the ActiveDirectory_01.00.00_Install.Resources file to ActiveDirectory_01.00.00_Install.zip as suggested in the post http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/Forums/tabid/795/forumid/89/threadid/170019/scope/posts/Default.aspx and then attempted to install it as I would normally do with a module.

The install process finished with the error message as follows:

Failure ExceptionSystem.Exception: Dnn load failed, aborting at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaDnnLoaderFactory.GetDnnAdapter() at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.ResourceInstaller.PaInstaller.Install()

Any idea on what the issue is and how I may be able to either rectify it or work around it. I am doing this on a development server and unless I get this problem sorted out I won't be able to upgrade our production server.

Also, I have one of our developers looking at the issue related to the failure of the AD provider to deal with nested users and groups within Active Directory. Once I have a tested solution I will forward you the source code for you to review and hopefully incorporate into the code base.

Kind regards,

Adrian

Please disregard the first part of my last post. I've just sorted it out. By changing the name and then using the Install New Authentication System link on the Authentication Setting section of the Host settings page.

I'm still getting the service provider code looked at to solve the nested groups issue and will provide the source code once it is complete and tested.
