Thanks for the help, Rob.  I tried using Add Existing Module to create a copy of the instance of the blog list on the new page, but to no avail -- same problem occurred.  If I figure this out, I'll let everyone know.

Ok.. the only other options I can suggest are to try a module that will let you inject a copy of another module for display purposes, even across portals in the same instance. Innventua do a Showdow Module and some other moduels do it as a side-feature - ZLDNN Module Wrapper, Mandeeps CSS Tabs etc.

Or you could use RSS features to display posts from a blog that is not installed on the homepage.

Or you could use a different module such as Ventrian News Articles that does allow you to reference a source module on another page.

And that's me out of suggestions.
