Hi,

I keep running into issues with the latest WebControls and DNN4.x and have made a few posts on various threads/forums...

Once the latest has been unzipped into the proper place, VS2005 refuses to all allow any of the controls to be dropped into any one of my modules.
Neither does it display the Webcontrols that are already there, right now, it is the TreeView.

Thought I'd add the WebControls source to the DNN 4.6.x solution and recompile BUT, seems like the WebControls project was built in VS2003.
VS2005 asks if I want to convert it. That is the latest WebControls source downloaded too...

Well, before doing so, is there anything odd here? Why won't the TreeView display? I can see all in codebehind as references etc all work and I can see all the methods etc etc. within VS2005. It just refuses to display in any .ascx in design mode. The error cited is a "placeHolder" error.

PLEASE advise!!

thanks,

Lindsay

Have you tried following Michael's tutorial?

Jon, I've been through all that without even looking at the tutorial.
However, as a point of reference, when I get to Step 4 in the tutorial, and drag the item into my module, VS2005 gives me this error message:
"Control cannot be created because Visual Studio cannot find the control's type in the control assembly"

Instead of getting the "PlaceHolder" item in design view, I get a DNN:Error "box".

The webcontrols version is 1.5.3.20116 and WebUtility version is 3.2.0.0
There are no other versions of these on this machine.

I thought of adding to the DNN 4.6 solution and recompiling but, as I said, it was built in a previous version of VS and I don't want to jump through the loops converting that project. Just no time.

Thought of using the MS TreeView but there are certain properties and methods that make your control more practical.

Anyway, please advise further if you can. I did add you to msn just in case we could chat briefly online.

Thanks,

Lindsay

Jon, following my last email I found something odd AND fixed the issue.

I created a module project using the DNN template.
All was working just fine EXCEPT the Webcontrols as you know.

In the HTML section of one ascx file, I saw it had a path error pointing to localhost/DotNetNuke but my setup is not that at all.
Strange 'cos all else in the module seems to work.
I went into the vbproj file with notepad and found an errant path pointing to localhost/DotNetNuke and not to the correct path for the project.
This entry:http://localhost/DotNetNuke
I changed that to point to the correct path and VOILA!

WebControls now work.

So, maybe the project template needs to be amended to use the correct path for the DNN installation in which it is being developed...one simply assumes :-) the paths are correctly set.

Anyway, hope that stops you from wasting any time on this issue.

thanks,

Lindsay
