I've been a DNN user for several years, and have learned enough to do basic setup for an RSS newsfeed module.  I have these on other DNN pages on other servers.  I'm now working on a DNN install 04.05.03, being hosted at GoDaddy.com.  I've properly installed the RSS Newsfeed module, but any attempt to draw in ANY RSS feed results in this:

Could Not Connect To http://www.wbko.com/home/headlines/index.rss. You Should Verify The Source Address Is Valid And That Your Hosting Provider Has Configured Their Proxy Server Settings Correctly.

I'm having similar issues with a Yahoo! Weather module.  It's almost as if for some reason the server this is being hosted on, cannot pull in any data for things like RSS feeds and weather feeds.  After a call to GoDaddy.com support, I'm not much further along.  They only said that they do not block anything of that nature, and there should be no issues.  As they're not trained on DNN, they can't answer any questions on it.

Anyone here got an idea?  I've built 4 other sites with DNN on various other hosts across the US, and have never had any issues setting this up on those sites.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks...

andrew

Andrew,

did you have any problems with the module actions menu with 4.5.3 at godaddy?  my son just installed there two nights ago and the install looks ok, but when you hover over the Module Actions Menu tab (top left corner of module pane) it causes an error on page.... Thanks, Peter

Andrew,

I remember hearing a while back that GoDaddy.com doesn't allow remote connections outside of their firewall from any client hosted applications.  I personally stay away, far, far away from them.

Greenflash here on the forums has gotten around some of GoDaddy's other issues, so you might check with him to see if he has any info on a potential workaround.

Otherwise if you are looking for a good host, I use 3Essentials (http://www.3essentials.com?3eref=13422) and have to say they do a great job, the applications run in full trust mode and I don't have issues with remote connections either..

Hi there,

I think you should also ask this question at Godaddy Hosting disccussions area (old name Metropolis). There is a DNN section admin, and i believe he may be able to help you.

Yes, i have managed to apply workarounds for some Godaddy issues, but i couldn't able to display feeds from other websites. However & interestingly i was managed to apply rss for a client's website. And displaying rss from other sources working at his website (he is hosted under godaddy and i have installed his dnn manually).

The point is Godaddy still cheap, but not reliable for some features. But i am seeing some point at least they are trying to improve communication between users via Metropolis.

I also suggest 3Essentials, EasyCGI and PowerDNN. But none of them will provide huge disk space and bandwith i belive.

If you are patient user, i believe you will learn how to fight with Godaddy problems :)

If you are interested, you can subscribe to my English blog. I write some tutorials for Godaddy & DNN users.

Regards.

Actually, it's all working pretty well right now.  I put in an email to GoDaddy.com support, and within a few minutes I was told I should now be able to use my RSS feeds.  They've worked ever since.
