I made a very big mistake when I started designing my site. I inserted the event module on the home page, then proceeded to fill it with a full year's calendar (took a long time). I then re-thought the layout, and so I would like to delete the event module from the home page - I've already created a "calendar" page, and used the "Add an Existing Module" function to insert the same calendar on that page. Question is - if I now delete the original module on the home page, will it delete the entire calendar and all the events completely from the site (i.e., from the Calendar page)??? I need a solid yes or no as I do not want to lose the calendar and its entries, but I really need to remove this from the home page.

I just tested this with some sample events, and I could delete the original module without loosing the events on the mirrored module, BUT I couldn't access the settings of the mirrored module! I got Error: Module is currently unavailable.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I got this error not only with the mirrored Events module, but with a mirrored Text/HTML module as well, even if the original module was still existing on the other page. So I think this is a core issue. I'm using DNN 4.5.5, Events 3.3.8 and Text/HTML 4.5.0 on Windows XP Pro with SQL Server Express. Do you get the same error? If so, what's your DNN version?

There are two other solutions:

  • Move the original module to the other page with the Move to Page selectbox in Module Settings > Page Settings > Advanced Settings
  • Just make the original module invisible for normal users by setting the appropriate  module permissions.

Of course you should make a backup of your database before all this!

I was finally able to resolve this once I fully understood the "sub-calendar" function. I was able to change the monthly calendar which I had put on the home page to just a list of five day's events. That fixed the first problem. Then, on the actual calendar page (on which I had inserted another instance of the original event module), because it now displayed as just a five day list (taking it's display characteristics from the original module on the home page), I deleted that instance, created a new calendar, and linked it to the home-page calendar as a sub-calendar. Not optimal, but it works. Later I'll probably move it (so that when someone else is administering the site, they don't start inserting new items into the sub-calendar) and reverse the situation I have now. Thanks for helping out with this!
