We are currently designing a DNN internal company administrative portal. It will be used for internal company purposes but will also need to have some outside clients be able to access it. Therefore, we are not going to be able to use Active Directory I believe. My question is this, we have various apps that we want to use through the portal by putting them behind an iFrame module, what are my options when it comes to authentication with these apps? We really don't want them to have to log in twice. What are other people doing out there?

You are mistaken - you can have BOTH Active Directory and DNN authentication enabled at the same time. I must say that it is very convinient. Just remember to put "<DomainName>\" before AD's username.

If your users use IE as their browser they won't have to authenticate to get access to your "IFramed" applications (if you enable access to those using Windows Authentication only in the virtual directory access properties).

Any other advice on how others are integrating authentication to external apps within their DNN intranet portal sites?
