Here is the order of events.
  1. signed up for Godaddy shared hosting account & Domain Id shootforthegoal.com
  2. Installed the DotNetNuke content management application
  3. Install was successful and was accessible from shootforthegoal.com/dnn
  4. Created a STARS child portal in DotNetNuke. This was successful via shootforthegoal.com/dnn/stars
  5. Attempted to create a subdomain called stars.shootforthegoal.com to access shootforthegoal.com/dnn/stars
  6. Once I did this I could no longer access the Child Portal stars I get the error message you see now if you access http://shootforthegoal.com/dnn/stars
  7. I worked with it for several hours and finally found an article that states that you can only use subdomains with DotNetNuke if it is installed at the root.
  8. I undid all the subdomain entries but it still was not accessible.
  9. I contacted customer support and they told me that you don’t provide support for DotNetNuke.
  10. I uninstalled DotNetNuke and then reinstalled.
  11. There is a bug in the DotNetNuke install if it has already been installed. I received an access denied message that DotNetNuke was unable read dnn/DotNetNuke.config. I found an article that stated if you copy the file from the config directory to the DotNetNuke root directory the then when you access the site shootforthegoal.com/dnn as an anonymous user it completes the install.
  12. Anyway with the new install I still had the same problem, were I could not access the stars child portals.
  13. I have repeated this process multiple times with the last being very controlled. I uninstalled the application once complete I deleted the directory structure. Then waited till next day when database had been deleted before reinstalling.
  14. I installed and created a t1 child portal and it worked fine and can be accessed by http://shootforthegoal.com/dnn/t1
  15. created a test child portal and it worked fine and can be accessed by http://shootforthegoal.com/dnn/test
  16. I still cannot access http://shootforthegoal.com/dnn/stars
  17. I don’t believe that the problem lies in DotNetNuke. Because it started with the subdomains I believe it may reside in that process.
  18. Is it possible that there is a stray Virtual directory?
  19. Are there hidden files that are created in the file system?
  20. Does the subdomain option create Host headers?
 Any thoughts?
