I'm trying to upgrade my dnn installation from 4.4.1 to 4.6.2. This is the second it doesn't work. I did the following actions:

  • backup the files on my webser
  • I unzipped the upgrade.zip and copy pasted it to my webserver.
  • I clicked at overwrite all and after it was done, i renamed my release.config to web.config
  • I copied my connectionstring, validationkey and decryptionkey into the web.config
  • Everything looks fine, but i get a defaulterror page

If I upload my backup back to the webserver, I can access my website again.

This is the error:

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->

<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error

do as described in error message: go to web.config and search for "customErrors". set the values to "off" and retry to get the detailed error message. Post it here, so we can give you further assistance.

I am also getting an error...Have tried 3 times already...Thank god I am just going against my dev servers :-)

Going from version 4.4.1 to 4.6.2.  Not sure if I have to got to 4.5 first but there is nothing that mentions it.

Every step gets a "success" message, but when I try and go to one of the portals I am getting a Type Value Null error (See below):

 Any Thoughts?!?!?  I really need to get this to work.  I know there have been other posts but can't find an solution.

Server Error in '/' Application.

no, you do not need to upgrade to 4.5.x before, but you should follow these upgrade check list: http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/tabid/186/Default.aspx

I already did set the value customerrors to off. But it's not reacting well. But if I had wrong values in my web.config I should see a dotnetnuke error. Not some Asp.net error. When I upload all the upgrade folders to my webserver, I have chosen overwrite all. Is that correct.
