ok guys - i'm new at how this all fits together - i know how to code the pieces but i just don't know how to make it fit together!

here's what i'd LIKE to have:

a tree in the left pane (data is from sql table) - and depending on the items selected (checked off) from the tree, i'd like a grid filled in the middle pane -

what i don't know - is this 1 module - how place them in separate panes - do i put all in 1 module and then on that .ascx page, "create" the look of a left and middle pane? or is there an easy way in dnn to use a tree module in the left and then another module in the middle - and can "access" or get from the left pane the selections of the user?

thanks for any help as i'm still not sure of the inter-relationships of the modules - do you code/organize each module as it's own little world?

you can go both ways, but need to find a way for the modules to communicate - either by using IMC or via URL.

both ways meaning do it in 1 module or do it in 2 separate modules and "talk" to each other? which way do you recommend /what have you done/experienced in the past? ~ thanks

what exactly is IMC?

IMC is InterModule Communication, and it allows one module to "talk" to another. You can go that route, but I would recommend creating one module that has a treeview on the leftside and your details on the right. Then on the treeview node select event, fill in your details. IMC would probably be better if you were using the tree view for more than one application, like say a common hierarchy.

sorry, both ways are referencing to 2 modules (IMC means InterModule Communication, you can read about in the Module Developers Guide available from Resouces >> Documentation page).

Of course, creating a single module would be easier but less flexible.
