I think i may have an unfinished installation, because after i make changes to the code, the first time DNN builds, it takes me to the upgrade wizard instead of the website. It's been happening for a while now and i don't know how to get rid of it.

Doesn't happen all the time either, only when the build time exceeds a certain period apparently. The code i'm changing is a web service that i've tied to DNN, so it's in the App_Code directory. Therefore each change to the web service, causes the whole project to rebuild when called in the browser (unlike the case when i make changes to custom modules that i need to write, since they don't form a part of the website's backbone as they're placed in a different directory)

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of the upgrade message ? It keeps showing up whenever the website builds for the first time (or at least that's what i suspect it's doing, since it takes longer than usually to load) although it's been upgraded a long time ago. It's quite annoying and it didn't use to behave that way.

Now it pops up each time i call the website for the first time for instance after changing some of the code, or whenever IIS rebuilds the website for whatever reason.

Hi Mikey,

I have hit the same problem - did you find out what was causing this?  Any help appreciated

Thanks.

I have experienced this from time to time.  I cannot explain why it goes to the Upgrade Wizard, but I have found that when it happens after an installation, there is normally an error on the site that has caused it to do so.  I believe that certain errors prevent an object from being properly accessed, thus pushing you to the Upgrade logic.  However, that is just a guess.

There are two things that I would suggest you do:

  1. Set the AutoUpgrade AppSetting to false.
  2. When the Upgrade Wizard appears, change the URL to point to the Default.aspx page.  I am fairly certain that you will be shown the error that was encountered during build or compile.

Thanks for the response.  I tried your suggestions, now when I access the site, the /UnderConstruction.htm page appears the first time, rather than the upgrade message page.  When I then change the url to default.aspx, the page loads perfectly without reporting any error.  Any further clues on how to track down what is causing this?
