Your connection string is clearly not working. If the user 'plusbay' is a SQL user account (i.e. not a windows NTLM account), check a few things:

1. Go to SQL Management Studio, right-click on your server, select properties and click on Security. Ensure that Server authentication is set to "SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode".

2. In the same properties window, click on Connections. Ensure that the allow Remote Connection checkbox is ticked.

3. Also, go back to the database view in Management studio. Expand the tree under your server. Click on Security. Click on Logins. Right-click plusbay and select properties. Click on User Mapping. Ensure that your 'plusbay' account has dbowner privileges on the (empty) database you created for the DNN install.

Hope this helps!

Thank you very much for your help! Your point 1 was on the money, I had missed this setting. The site is up and running now.
Again thank you!

I'm having difficulty with web.config.

At first I was getting configuration errors so I switched my site to .NET v.2 and now I am getting a "runtime" error.

Suggestions?

I have exactly the same problem, and a silly question to go with it... I'm completely new to .NET, DNN, and Microsoft visual tools but experienced with IIS and web development.

I have installed Visual Web Developer 2005 Express. I have DNN installed and running under the file based web browser mode, but see the same issue as the original poster.

I can't find SQL Management Studio anywhere on my machine. Is it installed at all with SQL Server Express edition? Was it installed with Visual Web Developer Express or am I missing it because of the Express editions?

I can find how to change authentication types in VWD, but without being able to reconfigure the database and put a user on it for SQL authentication, it doesn't help.
