Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. But I ask the powers that be (those who posted this download) "why does the installation allow me to select modules that don't work"!??

I'm on my 3rd completely fresh install, this time from DotNetNuke_04.06.02_Install. The same thing happened, couldn't build/publish. So I logged in as Host -> Module Definitions and clicked X-Uninstall in the Forums module. It is no longer in either list "Installed Modules" or "Available Modules". However, nothing changed in the VS05 web project. Still CANNOT PUBLISH due to the same errors. The developer hours spent on this is incredibly frustrating and unproductive. Please advise what needs to be done to make this work.

Oooh, sorry. I don't know how that text ended up "red and very big", not intentional. In the meantime I have done a 4th fresh install and now have a localhost version running and able to build/publish. I did not select to install any of the modules presented during the installation except the defaults (2 or 3). Forum does appear on the list of Available Modules in Module Definitions. I'm leary about installing any others that I may need in case they behave as badly as the Forum module. I suspect I'll have to do this through trial and error.

Did a fresh install of DotNetNuke_04.06.02_Install zip file and selected default ("Typical") rather than "Custom". Someone should update this package to remove buggy modules or more of us will be lost for hours/days needlessly troubleshooting and looking for help.

nxpage,

Note the Gallery Module 3.0.12 ist still marked as Beta.  The Project Team o Gallery was new created after a long sleeping time.  So we are working on a stabel version how you can read in some Bolg and Forum posts.

A Install documentation for DNN is a long time availible from die Document Page !  Also there are some Skining, developer, i.e documentation for download.

Installed Modules can on all DNN versions removed from the Host - Module Definations page.  A Upgrade do not deinstalled any Modules.  The most errors going on to users configurations fails.  But we can not know what you have do.  If you get some Errors so post the error log from Event Viewer in this Forum, so we can help you.

We spend a lot of time to supporting in this Forum, and to develop the Module.  So be fair.  We can can only help you if we get informations what is the issue.  Personaly I have run the Gallery Module since DNN Version 3.x and this without any problems.  So I thin this are some problems with your configuration.

So please post us the error logs, if you want help.

Thanks

Matthias

Thank you Matthias. I can see that a lot of good hard work has gone into developing this product, I don't mean to imply otherwise. The response to inquiries in this forum are very timely too and that's much appreciated.

Note the Gallery Module 3.0.12 ist still marked as Beta.

I know the Gallery Module is still in Beta (and I can't wait till the new and improved version is out), keep up that good work!

A Install documentation for DNN is a long time available from die Document Page ! Also there are some Skinning, developer, i.e. documentation for download.

There is a lot of valuable documentation on the Documents page such as Skinning, Module Development, etc. which I am using. This section does not have a document specific to "installation" that I can find. Basic installation instructions come with the download itself. On the download page for 4.6.2 there's a DotNetNuke 4.5.5 Docs further down the page which I found and downloaded later -- it contains an Installation-Guide.PDF from 11/2005 but should help for those that need visuals. It would help if that Docs link was also included in the section for downloading version 4.6.2 otherwise it gets missed.

Installed Modules can on all DNN versions removed from the Host - Module Definitions page

I did remove the Forums module through the Modules Definitions page as instructed. However I didn't realize the checkbox to 'delete files' had to be checked. Once the module was removed I still couldn't get past the build/publish errors in Visual Studio because I suspect the files weren't deleted. At this point I didn't know what files in the project would need to be deleted and there was no longer a Forum reference in the Module Definitions page (UI) to act on. So I started over with a clean install.

We spend a lot of time to supporting in this Forum, and to develop the Module. So be fair.

I know you do, and you are all doing a great job! I know how frustrating it can be to support something like this :)

Personaly I have run the Gallery Module since DNN Version 3.x and this without any problems. So I thin this are some problems with your configuration.

As I mentioned in my other posts, DNN 4.6.2 does not contain a Gallery module BUT it contains a Forum module that continues to reference this non-existent Gallery and that's why we are getting errors when trying to build/publish the website in Visual Studio. When I don't install the Forum module I don't have a problem BUT the installation screens allow you to select and install the Forum module. Am I not making sense?

I downloaded the latest install version and followed the instructions carefully, step-by-step. The problem is that during the install we have the option to choose Minimum, Typical or Custom (with Typical being the default). I always choose Custom so I can see what it's going to install and not install. Under custom it provides quite a few modules to check off if you want them. One of those modules is the Forum. When the Forum is installed the website cannot be built/published in Visual Studio. The errors (which I posted before) are specific to Gallery references in the Forum module. When I finally got a clean install without the Forum module I was able to build/publish. It's as simple as that.

So thank you, thank you Matthias and all the others who are here to help. I only want to move forward ...

Hi nxpage,

I think some errors in your VS 2005 comes about on VS 2005 all the project must be as .Net 2.0 projects (for DNN 4.x Modules).  Some projects still are in .Net1.1 and needet so VS 2003 for developing.  This is for Forum and Gallery Versions 3.x too.  So you get compiling errors in Visual Studio 2005.

For the Forum, I can say to you it will released version 4.04.03 in the next days.  The Galery module needs at time still some developing on fixes, and the beta testing.  So the Gallery will not start the Release process i.e. 4-6 weeks.

Hope this will help you a little.

Perhapst you are interesting on working in some project, so contact please the Team Lead of the project.

Regards

Matthias
