schad500,

i'm not sure who gave you a copy, but running an unreleased core project on a production site is IMO not wise. The forum module could still fail in the release tracker for a number of reasons such as security or performance, and you would be left running an unsupported version that would crash your site or leave it vulnerable to hackers and that would have no guarantee of an upgrade path to a later release (we only test upgrade paths between release versions of modules).

I appreciate your concern, and I understood that risk when I took it on.  I tested it out extensively, and I'm pretty satisfied with it as it is.  It's so far superior to the existing forum (which has glitches that, in my opinion, make it unsuitable for a public site) that I thought I should use it in spite of the risk.  I have a separate site that I use for testing upgrades and such, so I won't be trying an unproven upgrade path on my production site.

As general advice, though, you are obviously correct.
