First Error Was:

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'DotNetNuke.Modules.Html' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
File name: 'DotNetNuke.Modules.Html'
at System.RuntimeTypeHandle._GetTypeByName(String name, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase, Boolean reflectionOnly, StackCrawlMark& stackMark, Boolean loadTypeFromPartialName)
at System.RuntimeTypeHandle.GetTypeByName(String name, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase, Boolean reflectionOnly, StackCrawlMark& stackMark)
at System.RuntimeType.PrivateGetType(String typeName, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase, Boolean reflectionOnly, StackCrawlMark& stackMark)
at System.Type.GetType(String typeName, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase)
at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetType(String typeName, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase)
at DotNetNuke.Framework.Reflection.CreateType(String TypeName, String CacheKey, Boolean UseCache, Boolean IgnoreErrors)

Realizing that 4.6.2 included a new HTML module and the DLL referenced by the old one was gone, I compared a working site with the non-working ones, and changed the DesktopModules table entry for the HTML module to match the working site.  Now I get:

System.Web.HttpException: Could not load type 'DotNetNuke.Modules.Html.HtmlTextController '.
at System.Web.Compilation.BuildManager.GetType(String typeName, Boolean throwOnError, Boolean ignoreCase)
at DotNetNuke.Framework.Reflection.CreateType(String TypeName, String CacheKey, Boolean UseCache, Boolean IgnoreErrors)

Definately been the most painful upgrade I've done in 3 years...

Ok, in my trial and error I downloaded my entier site to my PC and setup DNN via IIS and replaced my site portal alias from stevenfunk.com to localhost/dotnetnuke.

Made sure everything was working.. well I was able to duplicate what is going on my actual site locally.  Good now I can play with stuff and not make my existing site worse.

In my process of thinking, I'm wondering if something in the upgrade zip was forgotten or something. So I begin by copying the /<site root>/admin/skins folder from the 'Install' zip file. Nothing changed.  Then I copied the entire admin folder from the Install.zip and lo and behold I now see my login dialog!  However the resource text is not loading.  Maybe this is stored elsewhere.  I wanted to quickly post this as I am now able to login to my site.  I'm not sure what file was in the admin folder was missing.  Does someone have a folder and file compare utility that they could suggest?  I just don't have the time to go through all the admin sub folders right now to see what is/was missing.

Anyway it's not a fix but maybe a lead to what is going on with the upgrade zip.

Just to reiterate:

1. I unziped the upgrade 'DotNetNuke_04.06.02_Upgrade
2. Ran upgrade process
3. Site works.. but cannot login due to module load error
4. Copy <site rood>/admin folder over existing folder
Now able to login but something is still missing as I do not see any text asking for username or password.

Hope this at least helps to allow you to login to your site for now.

If you do this, do at your own risk.. make a backup. I'm only posting to try to help out.  Please make sure you make a FULL backup of your database and site code before you try.

Steve

The type load exception was related to the codeSubDirectories in the web.config, so adding that cleared the exception.  Unfortunately now the login module fails to load and nothing is logged now.

Rolling back tomorrow unless someone has a suggestion.

The first Error meens that the dll file from the Text/HTML Moduleis missing.  But the new HTML Module will not broken after upgrade byself.  There must be a error on upgradeing. To modified the DesktopModule table with a other systems settings is not working.  Between there are different settings like other ModuleID. To beeing fixing your problem, you have make the changes back.

Then we must look, what was on the upgrade.  Look to the update logfiles between the previos version and the actualy.  You found it in the folders Providers/DataProvider/SqlDataProvider.  What settings are in the web.config, ie. who is the databaseowner, was teh machinekeys copied, as on.  Are the local folderpermissions setting right?

Then a copy and past of the original error log is needed from the event viewer of your dnn.  It is not clear what module make this errors. A posting with mark, copy from your site and past to a forum post from the error log in event viewer is the best way.  also in the event viewer is a log from the upgrade if you did not delete it.

Same as stated above.  It's only the 'Login' page.  Actual URL of site: http://www.stevenfunk.com/dnn/Home/tabid/114/ctl/Login/Default.aspx?returnurl=%2fdnn%2fdefault.aspx

What table are you looking at to see the exception?  I'm assuming the eventlog is not the correct one.  I'll search more through the tables.  By the way.. if I wanted to debug this, what version of DNN should I download and load in VS?

Steve

Log in as Host, go to Event Viewer and click on the "+" of the Page Load excetions mark complete log and post it here!

I think you are using not the Original LogIn.  Please test the original LogIn from system.

Thanks

Matthias
