Hi

I am a beginner in using DotNetNuke. I am a web-designer and have sucessfully installed DotNetNuke.

Now, I wanted to add a customized skin (using the DotNetNuke Skinning Guide).
After uploading it, DotNetNuke simply breaks down! After that, the only thing I can see is the following:

[mysite.com]/Default.aspx?tabid=36&error=The+Controls+collection+cannot+be+modified+because+the+control+contains+code+blocks+(i.e.+%3c%25+...+%25%3e).&content=0

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.  Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

Requested URL: /Default.aspx

Server Error in '/' Application.
The resource cannot be found.

I thing, I made have made an error of some sort in the skin.htm file - but I have never thought this could "kill" DotNetNuke!

What are my options? Can I restore the default skin some place? Is it normal that DotNetNuke is so fragile - and what can I dot to avoid that in future?

Sincerely,

Lasse Quorning

Hmm.. strange.

What you can do is rename the folder the skin is in and DNN will revert to the default skin.

And yes DNN will crash on a skin sometimes, but it mostly happens to people who start using it (I had it too and now it doesn't happen anymore)

The problem is that your HTM file gets converted to a user control which can cause serious problems if there are certain errors in it.

Did you add a "ContenPane"? You must have one.

Here are two posts that are about the same subject:

Could you please post the solution if you find one? (And post if you don't too)?

"The control contains code blocks" usually means there is code within a content pane.

You didn't give an example of your code, but the error message says the offending code begins with these characters:  <%  so it looks like there's some ascx code in there.

Make sure there is no code within a content pane area. If you don't find the problem, post your code here.

Good luck,

-Sam T.
