I've got exactly the same problem as Carmando with no resolutions. The asp.net account has permissions as mentioned above.  I get the "Portal failed to install" in the installation status report, then when I click on "Click here to access your portal" I get the following error:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

I've had a succesful install on other machines, but this particular install has given me nothing but headaches, after removing, deleting reinstalling, etc. etc. the above is the common errors I am left with. Can somebody throw me a bone? Some tip to try? Possible tests or checks?

I am having a similar problem, using Windows 2k3 sp1 inside a virtual machine. I believe that it is related to a memory shortage, but still have not been able to solve it.

I have the same problem.

How can I try to re-run the DotNetNuke install? I was using the Visual Studio Installer.

Solved my problem.

Possibly it was a timing problem, the machine is very unpowered so, I deleted the database and ran the Installer again and it completed. Also I change the web server from port 81 to 80 but I dont think that was related.

Look at this post http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/107/threadid/22321/scope/posts/Default.aspx - I have not yet tried it , but will when I get to work this week. It is the first time somebody seems to have had th error of installing correctly but portal not opening and seems to have described a way to fix it.
