About Module Quality
First thing to say is that I totally acknowledge the efforts and time put in by all the people who labour away on the module teams.
I use core modules wherever I can and have most set up as I would wish.
I believe that many people would use DNN modules in preference to many of the 3rd party offerings but often a module has not had enough time or attention spent on detail or has some important feature left out or unfinished.
EG: A recent release of a module had toggles where on really meant off and vice-versa plus a stored procedure that made use out side the US problematic.
I am not complaining. To be honest I would hate it if every thing was "right" straight out of the box but I do think that the long term success of DNN is partly dependant on providing as high a quality as possible. Its clear that this is recognised by the core team.
The improvements I have witnessed over the last 2 years have taken DNN from a useful option to the only kind of website I now work with but . .
IMO: Many modules suffer from not having enough time spent on them.
What If There Was A . .
DNN Module Support Scheme ?
Where we can pay a reasonable sum of money to support development of specific modules.
This could then be used to fund the developers and drive module development by user need and not availability of free time.
Would you pay maybe $25-$50 a year to directly support the developers and improve the modules you use. I would.
We all know that the more time we spend on a project the better it gets (usually).
Many also may feel guilty (including me) about not becoming even bronze supporters yet so this a would be a "good half way house".
In terms of Open Source principals I do accept that this may be some form of heresy but I think its a valid suggestion to make.
What do you think?
