We have decided to have all of our team members create blogs for internal use. Because they're for internal use, the BLOG page is view/edit for the role TEAM MEMBERS only. The problem that we have is that we want to use Outlook 2007 as an aggregator to check these RSS feeds, but we get an error anytime that Outlook tries to check the feeds. We're pretty sure that this has to do with the fact that the feeds are coming off of the protected page, but can anyone tell me if there is a way around this?

My company had the same problem.  We resolved it by having a page on one of our internal servers that would authenticate into dotnetnuke and retrieve the rss.  The page we built assumes a particular portal on the dnn installation and takes a tabid and rssid query string parameters to determine the destination url.

To learn more about using HttpWebRequest for Forms Authentication have a look at http://odetocode.com/Articles/162.aspx .  You can also do Windows Authentication through /admin/Security/WindowsSignin.aspx?alias=YOUR_PORTAL_ALIAS_HERE .

In addition to this we cache the result we get for a half hour so that we are only grabbing the rss from the live portal every half hour at the most.  Hope this helps.

If you're using DNN 4.6.0 or higher it's going to be /DesktopModules/AuthenticationServices/ActiveDirectory/WindowsSignin.aspx?alias=YOUR_PORTAL_ALIAS_HERE.

Not that said, Samuel, when you say PORTAL_ALIAS what do you mean? The username, the portal name, or something else? I know the current news module has problems displaying feeds from sites using the AD provider and this looks like an interesting possiblity for a work-around.
