Hello,

I'm building a new webiste where I need to tie profiles to roles... meaning that the profile data would be different based on the role.

Teacher would be one role and would have certain custom profile properties such as "Class Subject Taught" etc. The custom profile properties can be added in DNN today.

Student would be another role and would have certain profile data such as GPA, SAT etc

I don't want the student to see teacher profile fileds in their profile which do not fit their role e.g the student does not teach a class and so I don't want the student to see the "Class Subject Taught" field in their profile.

Does anyone know how this can be accomplished?

I have not found any add on modules which enable this.

Regards,

Patrick

Patrick,

this feature is not provided in the core, you need to check out 3rd party modules available at marketplace or Snowcovered.

Agreed.  The sample data suggests it will likely contain multiple values (a teacher may teach several classes) and/or change frequently (studen'ts GPA, etc. will change often), both of which are not suitable as Profile properties (AFAIK).

Keep the Student and Teacher Roles (to enforce page and module security), but you need to store the data in another module. Have you looked at the User Defined Table module?

I tried UDT but it does not work for this use case. I then decided to use XMOD which works out perfectly. Basically I just created a myspace type module using XMod. I'm not quite done yet. For XMod people - I'll post my code on the XMod dnndev site in the next 2 weeks or so.

Try our module (Indoo SQL Grid). I think this can be done almoust without coding (except the limitation for which where part of sql is needed).
