Object reference not set to an instance of an object.  is the error I am getting when trying to install the DNN . I got sql data connection string before this error but I finally search and search online after 7 days. "NOTHING" This is rediculus. I'm going back to PHP. I give up on ASP.net. DNN makes it sound like someone with no knowledge could through something like online quickly. I have been getting error after error and all I'm doing is following the instructions. Just think, if I go live, what would happen to my clients. I could loose business. Not stable..

Craig, i am sorry you had this experience. Thanks for posting though.

It would surely help if you could elaborate on the errors you got, what software you used to install (windows version, sql server version, iis, etc).

Setting up DNN for the first time can be a daunting experience, but trust me, the dotnetnuke community is very helpful in general to help you get started. If you feel these forums will not give you the answers you need, you can contact me directly at support@apollo-software.nl (please refer to this post so i will know it is you....), and i will get you started....

As Erik mentioned the first setup can be a bit tricky but it does get easier as time progresses.

Also, using a guide potentially outside of the standard dnn documentation might help a bit as well.  I find that people have good luck with my tutorials available at http;//www.mitchelsellers.com

I want to appologize to all. I was frustated trying to get DNN to install but I did take your advice and used mitchelsellers.com flash video and I did finally get it going on an IIS6 Windows 2003 Server and it is running great. You're right, after you get it up, it gets easier. I have been working with the Modules and I'm enjoying it greatly. Thanks for your post all of you have help me greatly.  Now I want to learn how to create my own skins..... Thanks again
