Hey all!

I'm new to the DNN thing..

when i click ont download it redirects me to sourcenet..but is a second or 2 i get an error message sayin Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site..a nd list the url for the mirror nad hten when i managed to change the mirror site.. within 2-3seconds " Webpage has expired"

After i FINALLY manage to click the download button fast enough to get it to dl.. i get a lotta files but no actual launch or setup file.. no .exe..

Is DNN a program to be used on an already setup up and runnig website? i was under the impression that i could use DNN to setup the various pages to a website b4 actually having a site.

Or am i missing something?

All help is appreciated!

Hi

I don't know why you were having problems with the download. Maybe SourceForge (which handles the download for DotNetNuke) was having some issues, but that shouldn't be a general problem.

However, once you are able to download, make sure you get the Install Package of the latest version (currently 4.6.2). Also, please download the Detailed Installation Guide (availble from Resources > Documentatiod here on this site) to know what the requirements are and how to install DNN.

You're right, there is no .exe file; all the files you need are in the .zip file. Since DNN is a web application it consists of web pages (aspx and ascx files), code files (usually vb, can also be cs) and a whole bunch of DLLs. All you need to do is transfer the whole zip file to your server, unzip it, make some settings on the IIS and the database as well as in the web.config file (included in the install zip), and there you go!

And really, read the installation guide, and if you find you're having problems after reading it, come back here -- there are always people to help you.

Hello, Vera

and thank you... i started reading the instructions.. and noticed i don't have IIS

so i'm assuming that i would have to go ahead and get my domain setup and actually have my webstie going to utilize DNN right?

thanks in advance!

I just tried the download from sourceforge and it was a bit unusual and did error our on me the first time, that should be an isolated issue.

As for the installation, it is somewhat involved as it was mentioned above it isn't just an .exe that you run.  You can have a look at the DNN documentation, I also have a full tutorial on my website http://www.mitchelsellers.com that provides installation guidance.
