Hi,

is there any chance to restart the running dnn application from outside ? What I would like to do is something like the "Restart Application" link on the Host Setting page, but triggered by some script/page not driven from DNN itself.

From time to time I face the fact, that my portal/host becomes veeeeeeery slow, or doesn't answer at all. As I am in a hosted environment without remote access to the machine I can't just restart the ISS service, which in fact I would prefer to tom but I can't.

So my hope is to "kill" the running DNN and restart it from a script that is well placed behind a login so that it's just me who get access to it.

Is there any chance for this ?

 TIA, Tom.

Tom,

If you are looking for this functionality I wonder why you couldn't just use the existing functionality.

If you are looking to create your own custom page, here is an article that discusses the two ways to cause a restart.  (Touching web.config or calling an unload method)

Hi Mitch,

thanks for your reply. Changing the web.config file didn't work at the time my dnn hang the last time. I had to ask my hoster to restart the iis. Anyway, I have decided to move to my own root server instead of having dnn in a virtual environment. Seems that this causes quite a lot of problems, especially after the traffic on my dnn page has increased over the last month.

Regards, Tom.
