I've just taken over as webmistress for an existing Dotnetnuke site, and am trying to fix a problem that shouldn't be happening.  We have two clickable links on our site, which should open up documents that are stored locally on the web site, and they don't work.  And I can't figure out why not.  I can open the files from the Admin File manager so there's nothing wrong with the files.  Here are the two link statements:

<a href="/TribMozartReview2-04.pdf"><font color="#800080">PDF</font></a>
<a href="/TribMozartReview2-04.jpg"><font color="#800080">JPG</font></a>

The files are located in the root directory of the web site, so these SHOULD be working links; but clicking on them just brings up "page not found."  I have tried the following alternative HTML formats without success:

    <a href="./Trib
    <a href="../Trib

What is wrong with this?  Does Dotnetnuke have some specific requirement for web link formats?

If you uploaded the files in the File Manager (or in any DNN module that uses the DNN upload mechanism), the files are stored in the web site's root directory, which is /Portals/[PortalID]/.  [PortalID] stands for an integer number, created automatically by DNN when you create a new portal (= web site), e. g. 0 for the first portal, 1 for the second, and so on.

The portal root directory is not identical to /, which is the root dir of DNN, and which you can't access with the Admin File Manager. Each portal (=web site) in DNN has it's own root dir.

In what module did you create the links? If it has the Rich Text Editor included, you can create links to pages or files inside your portal quite easy by clicking on the Insert/Edit Link icon, and then clicking on the Browse Server button. With this method you don't have to bother with portal IDs.
