Hi, i see that the Thread Add/Edit page uses the Admin skin selected in Admin Settings->Appearance which isn't ideal as we use a different skin for the admin area and the portal site - is this by design or something that needs addressing? I'd have thought it should use the Portal skin.

Thanks.

When you write a post, you're in module Edit mode, and Edit mode automatically triggers the Admin skin to be displayed. One reason for that is, in the Admin skin there is only one pane, and no other modules are displayed except for the one you are working on. (Possibly to avoid confusion and make sure you save your changes correctly).

This is related to when mid is in the querystring. This is typical core behavior. (But Vera's answer is on point)

So how do other modules avoid this? They don't use the core module edit functionality?

Thanks.

Most modules don't have as many controls. The only way to avoid it is to load everything in a "Dispatch" type control, which requires extra security work in the module coder's code and also requires more work to keep the dispatch page up to date. The reason this seems forum related is because most modules don't have nearly as many controls to load as the forum does.
