Has anyone experiences regarding mergeing two (or more) DNN installations? My motivation is, I've an old (slow) DNN production server with 5 running portals and a new one with more than 10 portals. The old ones has 3 power supplies with 750W so I want to reduce my the electric expenses. It's clear I could migrate from the old installation to the newer one and running two installations in parallel but for the future updates it's a twice effort and finally an aspect towords the DB performance .
Is it possible to merge the old portals to the new one without a second DNN installation?

As every primary key inside DNN Database is based on integer values, both installations will already use the same ids, for example you will have the same portalids, moduleids etc used on both servers pointing to different data. I don't say that this is impossible, but will cause a lot of brain and hand work.

Like Stefan said, there is probably no easy way to do it, but this may be an option.

Try saving your "old" portals as templates (with content). Then copy the .template files over to your new server, along with all the skin folders. Create "new" portals using these templates. You will have to "merge" the portal/[id] folders so that all the correct images and documents are available. Still not easy, but it should be easier than merging the 2 DB's.

Thank's Chris and Stefan for your suggestions,

it confirms my own presumptions that's not an easy task. The proposal from Chris, doing it over templates, I did it or better tried a couple of months ago on a development workstation. It worked well when I exported/imported a template from a standard installation but grave troubles with commecial modules (e.g. telerik, ...) and my own customized solutions. I'll try another attempt on this issue because shuting down my old machine 'is burning under my nails'.
Concerning on merging the DNN databases would it make sense to produce such a solution? Would it be a help for hosters or providers under the same circumstances I described my problem?
