I need to schedule the sending of an email to a certain group of folk. They are all in the same role, but not all of them need to get the email. It would be based on an individual report for each person indicating they had some outstanding tasks to take care of on the site. The email would need to contain in the body a report that would differ from person to person, and the reason not everyone in the role gets the email is that not all of them have outstanding tasks.

I'm looking at Onyak Nuke Alert, which is promising. Any other alternatives I should consider?

THanks -

Hi,

You might look into some of our features on Opt In Email module.

Specifically you can schedule distributions and so forth, you could probably setup a SQL Script that would automatically import users into the opt in email tables (to get the right users that have tasks int he list) and as far as the message the email can include custom tokens but depending on the 'report' you could possibly use an iframe passing along their userID to a custom app that delivers the report. The modle can also be purchased with source so thats another alternative. Besides some of the basic features there are some benefits to the scheduling and ability to track who has ready messages etc... Scheduling can include the ability to send x amount per x timeframe etc... (i.e. send 200 per hour until the completed distribution).

I wrote a free open source app quite awhile ago, YAP Email Manager. I opened the source for the community to extend upon. You can find the link to my code here and also check out my forum to see who all has expanded upon it and updated it for current DNN versions. I was unable to give it the support it deserved so deferred to others a year ago. It has worked great for my website sending weekly emails for me for more than a year now. It's free but my latest version was 'developer' quality. I don't know if anyone has made it more user friendly or not.

My module uses both content and email list providers. So you could write an email list provider and a content provider using the interfaces I provided and integrate with my code without altering it. The email list provider could be written by you to only send to ppl meeting your criteria of unfinished tasks. The content provider then could be written to send specific content to each person in the email list based on their userid. It could be run nightly (or weekly or whenever) sending emails only to those (if any) with unfinished taks. So although my module was never of finished release quality it would be a perfect fit for your use if you are a developer and able to customize it a bit.
