I notice when I download the documentation for version 4.5.5 the zip file I get is named DotNetNuke_4.4.1_Docs.zip.

INside of that the file DotNetNuke Membership.pdf has a last changed date of 12/5/2005 and talks about .NET 2.0 as something that's coming in the future.

Is there a more current version of the documentation or is this pretty much it?

Thanks.

DNN Online Help is up-to-date, but it sounds like you are looking for more developer-centric documentation.

Developer-centric is absolutely what I'm looking for.

I'm new to DNN and plan to use it for a work project. In addition to module development I need to figure out how to do the following.

1) auto-enroll a user using form data posted from a different site (if it's the first time we've seen that user)

2) auto-log on a user using the same form data posted from a different site (if it's a returning user)

So I'm looking for documentation that explains how to override or extend login and enrollment functionality.

Is there a recommended book that covers the enroll/logon process of DNN?

A related question is... am I crazy for trying to attempt this?

I'm up for buying a book if one is available that discusses the underlying plumbing of DNN. Is there one that anyone can recommend that may help me?

engwar,

First of all I hate to put it this way but really what you are looking for doesn't exist in terms of documentation.

What you are looking at doing is actually quite easy since the release of 4.6.0 (and later) with the creation of the authentication provider model.  However at this time the documentation on this process is scarse to put it lightly.

You are not nuts for trying it, but it will just take a bit of time, I would recommend looking at some of the core code for Windows Live and Open Id as that might give you a good place to start.
