It appears that the DisplayName is not a Profile Property, but rather a part of the user. For instance, the DisplayName is not stored in the UserProfile table and is not referenced in the ProfileProperty table. It is stored in the Users table alongside data like username and email.

I'm simply looking for the aspx or ascx control which holds the fields which are displayed in the "manage users" tabs and loads by default (or by clicking the "Manage User Credentials" link). The best thing for me would be to simply making the textbox holding the displayname readonly.

Thanks for your support.

I am aware that DisplayName belongs to UserInfo. I did not write Profile Editor, I wrote PropertyEditor. ProfileEditor inherits from PropertyEditor and the registration is also handled with the PropertyEditor.
There is no related ascx!

Hi Stefan.

I certainly did not mean to be rude, and I apologize if I sounded like that.

I would appreciate it very much if you could kindly explain to me the architecture behind those controls, or refer me to any kind of document that does so.

Is there any option, in any way, that I could make the "Display Name" textbox readonly (I.E disabled).

Thanks.

Have a look at charles' post.

Otherwise you might be better off just looking at a third party registration module that you can use to allow users to modify their profiles.

I've solved this by setting the display name format at the user settings page to: [DisplayName]

This means that the display name at the "Manage User Credentials" page now shows the User's Display Name but does not allow the user to edit it.

Also, this means that the user cannot enter the display name at the register period, but since I am registering in a different way.

Thanks everybody for your patience.
