DNN - Creating a Social Networking site.

Do I:

A) Build with existing modules such as Myprofile etc? Then realise in 2008 that Cambrian is the software equivalent of a gold plated Ninja and I should have waited.

B) Wait for Cambrian and run the risk of finding out that it has lots of bugs (As many 1st releases do) and it's another year before they're all ironed out. Should not have waited.

Opinion?

It's personal decision based on what's practical for you and your situation.  My opinion.  Don't wait. (Bird in the hand is worth far more than the two in the bush.)  Learn what you can now.  Apply it to the future.  You can't lose by playing now.  Keep your eyes and ears open.  Make the best decisions based on what you see now and go forward.  This is not a time to sit the fence. Try, Try, Try again.  Each version is an improvement.  The fundamentals don't change all that radically, and even if they should you can still "speak the language" everyone is talking.  Generally the old folks don't get washed out in the tide.  They just become better surfers, if they intend to stay.

My opinion would be to choose option A.

In software development there will always be promises of something better in the future. When those promises are kept you will have a new decision to make, but the way internet software works you will always be facing those kinds of decisions every 3-6 months.

Until that time, "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush".

The modules you decide to go with now may have even matured beyond what is available from other sources later.  I'm a firm believer that maturity/evolution in software is the only way to acheive "gold plated Ninja" status.

Wow, two "bird in the hand" quotes. I guess that is cliché , but still true.

Here's another: "Don't put off till tomorow what you can do today".

I'm inclined to agree with the bushy bird hands.

I want to get started now and with the comparitive "ease" of having a framework already implemented like DNN, I think I would be a fool to wait. I kind of knew this but wanted to sound it out. Thanks guys, I suppose I can always move to Camb as and when it comes out.

Thanx!
