Hi,

I'm looking for a CMS that can share modules across a number of different portals.

I have a number of domains i want to develop with a simple standard template. Each site would of course have its own unique content but for banner ads or google adverts I'd like to share the modules so they can all be updated in one action. The core point will be to update all sites from one interface.

Ideally i could run a number of basic templates dependant on the content/user experience. Some may perhaps use affilate datafeed / XML to produce recordsets of products others may only be a text based single page. I dont see any site been more complex than a default page - results set  and a detail page.

Is this something that can be done in DNN?

Many thanks

Interesting scenario.

Out of the box it can't be done. You could try and see what happens if you ( by manually adding records in TabModules table) try to have a module show in different portals. There's a fair chance you'll run into issues but who knows...

Come to think of it... it might be a better scenario for you to have the different websites in one portal, but make them appear to be seperated by just not having any links between them. At least it wouldn't require you to hack in DNN database tables because that wouldn't be really advisable.

  • a dnn installations contains of a set of modules
  • one dnn installation can setup mutiple portals
  • each portal can listen to multiple hostheaders/domains
  • each portal can use every module (*)
  • (*) host can limit modules to certain portals
  • each data is private per portal, a module of portal A can not access data from portal B
