I'm in the process of evaluating DNN to see if it will meet the needs of a project I'm working on. I understand that it has role-based security, but I have a need to be able to assign the role based on the user's company, not their individual account. Let me elaborate.

I have a table that is a list of company dealers. I would like for users to have a pulldown that they can select the company that they work for. This pulldown would be populated with that list. Then their role is assigned by the type of company they are (dealer, installer, sales rep firm, etc...).

Is the DNN user authentication system flexible enough to support something like this, or am I looking at handcoding my own system at this point?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

You won't get it 100% the way you want it, with a dropdown and all, but if you create public roles for Dealer,Installer, etcetera, and have users choose their role themselves from their profile page.

Thanks Stefan,

Have you (or anyone else) had experience with this module?

It seems to claim that I can load dynamic data in my registration form. It sounds like what I need.

No, I don't know that module. Only by name. But with DNN you can change the users profile properties too and make sure users have a valid profile on login (which makes sure all mandatory fields are filled).

Your challenge is to to assign a role based on a profile property. In DNN that can't be done by default, don't know about Ucanuse UserAttributes.

The option with the public roles is the out-of-the-box option you can always return to if you can't find what you really want, right?

Give your scenario to the developers of Ucanuse and also Datasprings Dynamic Registration. It sounds like exactly the sort of thing they handle.
