I have had a request  from my users to provide an alternative layout for the main controls within the wiki.
A large number are requesting that the main controls ( Home, Search, Recent Changes, Index(Show/Hide) ) be placed at the top constantly visible, whilst keeping the index as a popup section on the left.

I am going to be implementing this so that it is an admin option to select which view they wishhorizontal or vertical (much like housemenu and solpart) but I wanted to get community opinon? should the layout be completely set by the css or can I just set it up as two separate webparts?

This is another long term item on the roadmap, an overhaul of the UI and developing custom templating is a MUST for the Wiki project. Once I get this next release out we'll be looking at what big ticket items need to be addressed in the very near future.
