i was working on my website yesterday morning and all was fine, came back later in the day to continue and the edit text button no longer came up, then later on when i tried again all my text that i had done since starting was gone. today still gone and still no edit text button. the only thing i did yesterday was clean and defragment my computer. could this of caused anything? how do i get it all back and how do i get the edit text to appear again?

It sounds almost as if your site has been switching between View, Edit, and Design views.

View Mode: you see what a normal user sees
Edit Mode: you can edit, change settings, etc
Design Mode: you only see the site layout without the content.

i have tried everything, made sure it was in edit, tried different pages, nothing brings up the edit text or the text that i had already written on any of the pages. it was simply fine in the morning and then when i logged in later, the edit text was not there, text was, then even later, text was gone. thought maybe it was something going on within dnn, but upon trying again today still no luck.

As Mike said, this is 99 out of 100 times caused by the view/edit/design modes

What version of DNN are you on? if 4.7 check the radio buttons at the top of the page. If you're on an earlier version, below the radio buttons (view/edit) there are a few icons, one of those will be "design" try clicking on that icon.

4.5.3, it was installed through godaddy, i tried to upgrade but it isnt combining with the godaddy. anyways i have tried design, that does nothing, tried going to pages, making sure in edit and that does nothing.
