Hello,

I'm currently writing an article on how to validate your html and css code.

I'm validating the DNN-Blue skin as an example, a few errors occur which are self-explanatory, but I've come across one which I would benefit from an explanation if possible?

The validator is stating that:

  • Line: 74 Context : .MainMenu_MenuBar

    Invalid number : cursor hand is not a cursor value : hand

Looking in the CSS code I can see we have 2 values specified:

cursor: pointer;
cursor: hand;

Looking in my CSS reference books, I can't find any reference to specifying 'hand' - I can see that the 'pointer' attribute creates the hand shaped cursor, but why was 'hand' included within the code?

Is this for browser compatibility?

Any pointers appreciated, thanks,

Yep.

Look at this link: http://www.asrvision.com/web-design-tutorials/css-tutorial-cursor.htm  "hand" works in IE and "pointer" is official CSS and works in NS, FF.

Peter

BTW nice tutorials you've got. A great way of progressing DNN

Hi Peter,

Cheers, that's a useful link. - I've just tested the skin without the 'hand' code and it still displays the hand cursor in IE6, IE5.5 - within IE5 the solpart menu doesn't display.

Looking at the doc it states 'hand' is for IE4+, because the Solpart menu does not display in IE5.1 is there any point in using the 'hand' attribute for backward compatibility?

Thanks,
