How does DNN Manage groups?

We are trying to setup and secure our DNN site and we would like to be able to use the AD groups we already have.

When you turn on Windows Authentication do the groups from Active Directory come over to DNN or do you have to setup all the AD Groups in DNN manually?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Does anyone have an idea here about how AD groups are managed?

Sorry for not seeing this earlier. I get notifications on posts made to the Active Directory forums and only check the other forums when I get a chance.

At this point you have to setup all the groups (roles) in DNN manually and while I can see an advantage at having them created automatically I can also see a huge disadvantage to it. To the point that, imho, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Using the college I work for as an example. We've got dozens of different schools all with their own AD groups. When I turned on Active Directory for our school's website I have no need or want for all of the groups that belong to the other schools to be added to the Security Roles of the site. I don't even want all of the groups from within our school's OU to be part of the site until such time as I have a need for them. I, personally, would hate to try to setup a page and go through potentially 100s of groups to set the permissions on the page.

I think a better solution would be an external application that would allow you mass select the groups (and possibly users) and have them created in your DNN install.

So your saying at the install point this external application would blast in all the groups from AD for us?     But on the one hand like you said Im not sure we want all the AD groups

Where does DNN keep track of all this in SQL server?  Is there a collection of tables that this is stored in or configured in?

How do you get true AD authentication with DNN?  I want to be able to have a seemless login for people that are inside the building.
