We're using 4.5 and I was on a mission to clean up our user base, even if only to set old users to inactive.  We don't want to delete them from the system, but I would like to know if there is a way to set some kind of inactive user status on people no longer with the company, or people who no longer have access.

thanks!

Goto Admin/Users and use the pencil to edit the user account.  There is an Activate/Unactivate button.  May have been a checkbox in 4.5, but either way, it is right there.
