Hello,
I'm in the process of building a portal system that will be exposed publicly and internally.  Publicly, I would like to have DNN Authentication, but internally I would like to use AD Auth.  External users will have access only to their child portal and Internal users will have access to multiple child portals.

My initial thinking was to use two separate IIS sites pointing to the same code base, one web site would allow anonymous (external) access and another would have Windows Integration (internal).  This is creating some weirdness, as I hit my external/anonymous auth site and it prompts for windows credentials.  I have setup access to the WindowsSignin.aspx as windows auth in my internal site through IIS, not through NTFS.

Am I missing something, can this be done or am I just dreaming?  Any assistance would be welcomed.

The problem is because of the AD Provider. As soon as the <add name="Authentication"... /> in the <httpModules> section is uncommented in your web.config (it was added when you installed the provider and is required for automatic login) every request to your site goes through the WindowSignin.aspx. The only way around this is to comment out the line in your web.config except then AD users have to manually login. As an enhancement the next release of the provider is going to allow you to set the IP address, range, subnet for automatic logins to get around this problem.

Now for the really bad news. There's a bug with AD user accounts and child portals using automatic logins that I haven't worked out yet. It does appear to work fine with manual logins but automatic logins the users profile never gets created (the user gets logged in but it doesn't look like he has).

If you have any other questions it's best to post them in the AD Provider forum as I get email notifications on that one (I just stumbled across this post while doing some general moderation).

Thanks Mike.  I was kind of hoping that it would be configuration, not an enhancement.  Oh well.  Do you have a timeline on when the new provider will be released?
