Thanks, in my dev base I have tried all types of subscription options (after fixing what I knew to be an issue) and have had no issues thus far.

From my list, items 8 and 9 do not immediately appear to be subscription-related.  Are you aware of those as well?

I saw another tracking behavior that I don't think I've seen listed. When I go into the forum administration and choose to have forums tracked for a user, it doesn't seem to persist the choice if it's checked off at the group forum level - it's only persisted if it's checked off at the lowest forum level.
