Note: I apologize if I missed the correct category, but I couldn't see one fit for this kind of problem.

I have this website where me and some users use repositary modules to write text drafts,
and it all worked out great until a few hours ago.

All of a sudden one of my users tells me to go to the site, and I'm surprised by the missing menu.
So I tried clicking one of the links on the frontpage, which are supposed to lead to the corresponding article on another page, but nothing happens.
I then tried to login as a user, no change.
Then as a superuser, and the only change was that I could see the Host menu (But not the admin) and use the host pages.

When I entered the Host -> Portals page I got this error:

 Unhandled error loading module.
DotNetNuke.Services.Exceptions.ModuleLoadException: Unhandled Error Adding Module to ContentPane ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.Portals.Portals.Page_Init(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.UserControl.OnInit(EventArgs e) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.InitRecursive(Control namingContainer) at System.Web.UI.Control.AddedControl(Control control, Int32 index) at System.Web.UI.ControlCollection.Add(Control child) at DotNetNuke.UI.Skins.Skin.InjectModule(Control objPane, ModuleInfo objModule, PortalSettings PortalSettings) --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

Also, I tried to click the Edit button next to my portal, but it led to /Admin/Portal/0 which does not exist.
If you have nothing to do, see for yourself!

Thanks in advance! :-)

Joakim,

  1. Which version of the DotNetNuke framework are you running?
  2. Did you try to restart application by adding a blank to an end of a line in web.config and saving the file?
  3. If this does not help, you might try to restart IIS, if it is your own server.

Cheers from Germany,
Sebastian Leupold

Im using 04.07.00 (I figured I should have it in the thread title, in case it's a common problem).

When I woke up the site worked fine, so I'm guessing that when the cache run out and it compiled again the error was corrected.

Restart IIS, or just the website in IIS?
Anyway, thanks, I'll remember that! :-)

I would start with restart web site (App pool) and only, if no success, restart IIS

Rebooting the machine fixed it for me.
