I'm trying to upgrade our 4.5.5 installation to 4.7 but the install fails. I've even tried to upgrade to 4.6.2 first and then upgrade to 4.7, but the 4.6.2 fails also. Below is the exception error that occurs when trying to connect to the site.  Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've been chasing this error this past weekend too. Same upgrade path. In the end I found that I missed updating this one section in the new web.config:

in section <SQLDataprovider> copy keys

  • DataBaseOwner (this was same for me)
  • ObjectQualifier (here I had added "dnn_" as a prefix to the member/role tables during the initial install)

I used WinMerge.exe to compare the files, but due to spacing and line breaks, it was difficult to catch all differences. I followed this upgrade sequence that helped me spot my error:

http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/tabid/186/Default.aspx

Hoe this helps!

Clarification: That should be the <data> section:

<data
    defaultProvider="SqlDataProvider">
   <providers>
    <clear/>
    <add
      name="SqlDataProvider"
      type="DotNetNuke.Data.SqlDataProvider, DotNetNuke.SqlDataProvider"
      connectionStringName="SiteSqlServer"
      upgradeConnectionString=""
      providerPath="~\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\"
      objectQualifier="dnn_"
      databaseOwner="dbo"/>
   </providers>

(That should also read "Hope this helps!"

Thanks Candera, but the section we hadn't made any changes to any of that section (the only custom changes ever made were the required changes (sql connect strings and machine keys) and minimum password length.
