Gilles, you mention installing the source with your testing installation... what is the advantage of the sources....

i thought they are only used when you are editing the core code?

Hi Carl,

You are right, it's not a real requierement to use dnn with sources to create a module. But in some case, when you start with dnn it's realy usefull to understand how a method or function works. Moreover, it could be usefull too when debuging to be able to trace every piece of code. If you don't want to use dnn with sources, you have to edit manualy the solution file and replace all references to "..\..\..\Website\" by "..\..\..\". Same problem and solution if your web site is not located under the virtual path http://localhost/DotNetNuke_2/, you have to replace all references to this url by your hown and replace every references to the virtual path "/DotNetNuke_2" by your hown.

We (team members) are Humans offering their knowledge, their work and their spare time FOR FREE to benefit the community. It would be so particularly appreciated that your messages begin with "Hello" and end with "Thank you" or any other form of politeness. Ask yourself what your reaction would be, if you were approached by me (a total stranger) on the street to ask you something without saying "Hello" nor "Thank you"? After several years of services dedicated to the community, I begin to be tired to read requests without any form of politeness.

Thanks Gilles,

The install process was very clearly described and worked as you said.  I had a compile issue, having chose DNN 4.9.5 for the DotNet security updates instead of the 4.4.1. you tested.  It was a new install of DNN on a relatively clean XP Pro system (SP3) with SQL Express and VS 2008 Express.

The error was :  Unable to copy file "Controls\AJAX\bin\System.Web.Extensions.dll";   arising from the file \Library\DotNetNuke.Library.vbproj.

The file is not in the source folder and was already in the target folder and I think this post-link copy is no longer necessary.

I commented out the line in the vcproj file and got a clean compile and link.  It seems fine after a few hours of exercise.

Thanks again.

Phil
